Job description

POSITION: Elementary Teacher Assistant
Duties
This job description describes in general terms the normal duties which an elementary teacher assistant will be expected to undertake. However, the job or duties described may vary or be amended from time to time without changing the level of responsibility associated with the position.
Teaching and learning
Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the classroom teacher.
Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities โ€ข
Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records.
Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts.
Assist students with reading and math skills.
Substitute in the classroom when necessary.
Administrative duties as directed by the classroom teacher
Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
Support class teachers in photocopying and other tasks in order to support teaching.
Undertake other duties from time to time as the classroom teacher requires.
Grade homework and tests as assigned by the teacher.
Standards and quality assurance
Support the vision and mission of the school.
Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance
Attend scheduled staff meetings.
Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.
Other duties and responsibilities
Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
Supervise students in classrooms, halls, school grounds, or on field trips.
