Job description

Dewberry is currently seeking a Senior ITS Engineer in our Fairfax, VA, or Richmond, VA office. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented individual to join a large team of traffic engineers. Projects will include a wide range of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) design projects for clients in both the mid-Atlantic regional and throughout the eastern United States. Specifically, this individual will lead the ITS design on projects that include elements such as vehicle detection systems, vehicle surveillance systems, dynamic message signs, toll rate signs, toll gantries, and connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) technologies. Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of ITS and traffic engineering experience, including experience on VDOT, MDOT, and/or design-build projects. Applicants must have strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to monitor schedule and budgets, and the ability to work in groups and lead and mentor a group of traffic engineers. This position also offers tremendous potential to build project management and client management skills while working on innovative projects. The position also offers flexible work hours and the ability for part-time telework.

  • Manage and perform various ITS related tasks as noted above
  • Lead and mentor a group of traffic engineers
  • Collaborate with roadway, structures, hydraulics, and environmental groups within our Transportation business unit.
  • Prepare scopes of work, schedules, and fee proposals
  • Meet with clients
  • Participate in business development

  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • PE license required
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in ITS design and traffic engineering
  • VDOT, MDOT and/or design-build experience preferred
  • MicroStation experience required
  • Project Management and leadership skills preferred
  • Ability to effectively develop new business
  • Electrical design experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of VDOT and/or MDOT standards preferred
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
