Job Summary
Join our team at Baytown Nature Center as an Education Technician, where you'll inspire and educate visitors about local wildlife and natural habitats. Ideal candidates will have a passion for environmental education and experience in creating engaging programs for diverse audiences. Assist the Baytown Nature Center Naturalist in the design and conducting of nature-based education and recreational programs for citizens of all ages. Represent Baytown Nature Center at outreach events. Position requires an acceptable level of comfort in handling live animals in education programs (i.e. snakes, alligators, and other small animals).
Duties
  • Assists Baytown Nature Center Naturalist in the design and development of nature-based education and recreational programs. Assists in conducting programs throughout the natural resources division.
  • Represent Baytown Nature Center at outreach events.
  • Provides general information about the Baytown Nature Center to callers and visitors.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Required:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Actively pursuing, or completed, an education in Science, Education, Biology from an accredited college or institution.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver's license within 90 days).
  • Enjoy working with children and adults.

Preferred:
  • One year related experience in Education, Biology, Nature Centers, or a related field.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
An interest in one or more of the following: birding, fishing, plant identification, wetland ecology, woods ecology. A basic knowledge of nature. Ability to assist in creation of environmental educational programs for all ages. Ability to communicate with the public, especially children, by speaking to groups; and to tolerate hot and humid, and cold and humid weather. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public. Comfort in handling live animals and using animals in educational presentations.
