Most courses are intended for general education non-major students with a small portion of Earth Science or Geology majors. The department has a variety of equipment and samples for geology and oceanography to use for demonstrations or hands-on experiences

Currently, lecture courses are available with the possibility of lab and field courses in the future. Primary Purpose: PRIMARY PURPOSE Duties and responsibilities as presented are intended to be representative and not restrictive. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment and allocation of duties in accordance with operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Master's in geology, geophysics, earth sciences, meteorology, oceanography or paleontology OR Bachelor's in geology AND Master's in geography, physics, or geochemistry OR Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee. Working Conditions: Salary Range: $1572.67 - $1725.85 per lecture unit rate, $1572.67 - $1725.85 per lab parity unit rate, $1258.16 - $1380.60 per lab unit rate Open Date: 05/28/2026 Close Date: 05/27/2027 Special Instructions Summary: SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS SUMMARY This recruitment will remain active for a period of one year, from the position opening date. This is a continuous recruitment to fill part-time, and temporary faculty assignments on an as-needed basis. When the need to fill arises, the department will refer to this pool of part-time faculty.
