IU ECES provides year-round, high-quality care and education at nationally accredited centers for children ages birth through 5 years. In addition to the service component, the IU Bloomington (IUB) ECES Centers meet the academic mission of IU by providing sites for student training and by serving as research sites for faculty and students. Finally, the early childhood centers at IUB serve as model high quality, early education programs for the Bloomington community and the state of Indiana.

Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Assists the full-time teachers in providing a welcoming, calm, comfortable and nurturing environment for children ages 3-5 years.
  • Interacts directly with the children indoors and outdoors, singing songs, playing games, reading books, and providing or assisting with children's personal care.
  • Assists with some food preparation and/or lunch set up, and light cleaning.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred
  • Experience working with preschoolers

  • Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information

Working Conditions / Demands
This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Several shifts are available. Please see the specifics below :
  • Part-Time Early Morning Assistant: Monday through Friday - 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM
  • Part-Time Morning Assistant: Monday through Friday - 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM
  • Part-Time Rest Time Assistant: Monday through Friday - 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM
  • Part-Time Afternoon Teacher Assistant: Monday through Friday - 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM
Shifts can be combined to increase weekly hours.
