General Description
SUNY Niagara has a need for part-time instructors to teach beginning drawing within a structured foundation arts program.
Responsibilities include teaching foundation drawing with a primary emphasis on drawing from observation. Instructor will be provided with a general syllabus that includes essential learning objectives and will develop appropriate exercises and assignments to meet critical learning goals.
Remuneration: $1,008 per lecture hour/$903 per lab hour.
In order to build and maintain an active pool of qualified candidates to meet our present and future needs for this position, SUNY Niagara will accept applications on a continuous basis. Openings may or may not exist at this time. Applications are evaluated on an as-needed basis, and candidates will be contacted when the department has an opening. Candidates that submit their information may or may not be notified as to the status of their application.
Typical Work Activities
โ€ข Teach courses in the delivery format agreed upon
โ€ข Track attendance as needed
โ€ข Report on student learning outcomes at the end of the semester
โ€ข Report grades at the conclusion of the semester
Essential Functions
Ability to work with, and teach a diverse student population. Ability to speak in front of groups of people. Must be able to effectively communicate with students, co-workers, supervisors and the campus community. Must be able to develop, prepare and present information. Must able to operate computers. Must be able to physically perform the duties of the position.
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in Fine Arts, Design or appropriate related field of study
  • An active art/design career as evidenced by professional exhibition record, current work, and/or publications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative working style.
  • Must have strong observational drawing skills.
  • College level teaching experience

Desirable Qualifications
  • Evidence of two years of teaching at the college or university level.
  • Evidence of community college teaching experience.
  • Evidence of work with diverse populations of people in an educational setting.
