Visual Arts Teacher (K-12)

As a Visual Arts Teacher in New Jersey, you'd instruct students in various art forms, develop engaging lesson plans, assess student progress, and foster a creative learning environment while adhering to district policies and standards. 

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the responsibilities and requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction and Curriculum Development:

• Plan and deliver engaging lessons in visual arts, covering a range of techniques and mediums (e.g., painting, drawing, sculpture, digital art, photography).
• Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum aligned with state and district standards.
• Create lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and needs.

Student Assessment and Evaluation:

• Regularly assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records of student work and performance.

Classroom Management and Environment:

• Maintain a safe, orderly, and stimulating learning environment.
• Manage student behavior effectively and promote positive interactions.
• Ensure proper use and care of art materials and equipment.

Professional Development:

• Stay current with best practices in art education through professional development activities.
• Collaborate with colleagues to improve teaching practices and curriculum.

Other Duties:

• Supervise students during art activities and field trips.
• Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress.
• Participate in school events and activities.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Art Education or a related field.
  • New Jersey teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement in Art Education.

• Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong knowledge of art history, theory, and techniques.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to create and implement engaging lesson plans.
  • Passion for art and a commitment to fostering creativity in students.

• Experience:
  • Prior teaching experience in visual arts is preferred.

The Hiring Process

• Interview Process: Human Resources does not conduct initial interviews for teaching positions. These are handled directly by school administration. They will contact you directly should they have an opening.
• Selection: Should a need arise, school principals will review the candidate pool to select candidates for an interview. Interviews may be in person, virtual, and could include demonstration lessons.
• Onboarding: Human Resources will follow up with selected candidates to guide them through the onboarding process.
