What is part time drafting?

Part time drafting involves creating technical drawings or plans, usually for architecture, engineering, or manufacturing projects, on a part-time basis. Drafters use computer-aided design (CAD) software to convert ideas and specifications into precise diagrams. Part-time positions are ideal for students, those seeking work-life balance, or individuals supplementing other jobs. The role may include updating existing drawings, collaborating with engineers or architects, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Drafting professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Drafting professional, you need proficiency in technical drawing, attention to detail, and a background in drafting or a related field, often supported by a relevant certification or coursework. Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or SolidWorks is typically required for creating and modifying technical plans. Strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate with engineers and architects help set you apart. These skills are essential for producing accurate, high-quality drawings that support project success and efficient teamwork.

Job description

The Challenge:
We're on the lookout for an AutoCAD Technician who can bring blueprints to life with precision and creativity! If you geek out over flawless designs, sharp lines, and turning napkin sketches into real-world structures, then this role is for you.
What you'll do:
  • Design & Draft: Use AutoCAD (and maybe some other cool tools like Revit or SolidWorks) to create accurate and detailed 2D & 3D drawings.
  • Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: Collaborate with engineers, architects, and designers to make sure everything fits together perfectly.
  • Revise & Perfect: Make adjustments as projects evolve because we all know designs never stay the same!
  • Detail Detective: Ensure drawings meet industry standards, codes, and best practices-because precision is everything!
  • Call in Locates: Contact utility companies to request locates, ensuring underground utilities are marked and accounted for in designs-because avoiding surprise explosions is kind of important.
  • Keep it Organized: Manage and maintain CAD files, project documentation, and revisions like a pro.
  • Innovate & Elevate: If you've got cool ideas for improving design processes or efficiency, we want to hear them!

What you need to succeed:
  • CAD Mastery: AutoCAD (a must!), plus bonus points for Revit, SolidWorks, or other CAD software.
  • Creative & Analytical Mindset: You see both the big picture and the tiny details that make it work.
  • Team Player: You collaborate like a champ and communicate technical info without the jargon overload.
  • Problem-Solving Pro: You don't just find problems-you solve them.
  • Industry Know-How: Whether it's architecture, engineering, construction, or manufacturing, you understand how things come together.
  • Education & Experience: A degree, diploma, or certification in Drafting, CAD Technology, or Engineering plus 1-3 years of hands-on CAD experience.

Perks & Benefits
  • Competitive salary
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance-because we care!
  • Career growth & development opportunities
  • A fun, collaborative work environment with real impact on the world
