What is part time drafting?

Part time drafting involves creating technical drawings or plans, usually for architecture, engineering, or manufacturing projects, on a part-time basis. Drafters use computer-aided design (CAD) software to convert ideas and specifications into precise diagrams. Part-time positions are ideal for students, those seeking work-life balance, or individuals supplementing other jobs. The role may include updating existing drawings, collaborating with engineers or architects, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time drafting professional?

To thrive as a Part Time Drafting professional, you need proficiency in technical drawing, attention to detail, and a background in drafting or a related field, often supported by a relevant certification or coursework. Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or SolidWorks is typically required for creating and modifying technical plans. Strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate with engineers and architects help set you apart. These skills are essential for producing accurate, high-quality drawings that support project success and efficient teamwork.

Part-time drafting professionals often face challenges such as adapting to varying project timelines, staying updated with changing software, and integrating effectively with full-time team members despite working fewer hours. -Intermediate understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
-Converting documents into PDFs and Zip files

Skilled in:
-Verbal and written communication

-Navigation and use of Google Workspace including email, Calendar, Meets, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Chat.
Ability to:
-Multitask and prioritize assignments
-Perform the essential job functions as outlined

Selective Preference(s):
-Bachelor's Degree in Government, Political Science, Public Affairs/Administration and Law.
-Experience working in a fast-paced office environment with multiple deadlines.
-Legislative policy and research experience.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
-Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete required driver training. (refer to Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver's License Requirements.
All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
Benefits:
-Work with a creative, collaborative team of people who enjoy sharing their knowledge and experience.
-Gain valuable experience working in a State Agency.
