Kovach Enclosure Systems is seeking a highly experienced Senior Drafter to serve as the department's highest-level technical drafting professional.
The Senior Drafter leads our most complex and technically demanding architectural enclosure projects from project kickoff through fabrication and completion. This position serves as the primary technical drafting contact and takes ownership of drawing quality, constructability, project schedules, and drafting labor budgets.
The Senior Drafter also provides department-wide technical leadership, mentors experienced drafting and BIM professionals, performs advanced quality-assurance reviews, and helps develop the standards and processes that support consistent, high-quality work across the department.

What You'll Do
  • Lead complex and high-profile drafting projects from project turnover through fabrication and completion.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of project scope, façade systems, specifications, schedules, budgets, fabrication requirements, installation conditions, and technical risks.
  • Oversee the development of shop drawings, fabrication drawings, BIM models, takeoffs, bills of material, material orders, releases, and related project deliverables.
  • Monitor drafting schedules and labor usage and recommend actions to address budget, resource, schedule, scope, or quality risks.
  • Coordinate drafting activities with Project Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Field Operations, BIM resources, and outside partners.
  • Serve as the department's senior technical resource for façade systems, detailing, system interfaces, fabrication, installation, and constructability.
  • Mentor BIM Drafters, Drafter II employees, Drafter III employees, and other drafting personnel through technical guidance and project reviews.
  • Perform advanced quality-assurance reviews for accuracy, constructability, fabrication readiness, installation feasibility, and compliance with Kovach standards.
  • Ensure errors, omissions, conflicts, redlines, and review comments are resolved before project deliverables are released.
  • Review outsourced drafting work and address recurring technical, quality, communication, and workflow concerns.
  • Develop and refine drafting standards, procedures, checklists, templates, details, and technical resources.
  • Identify and support improvements involving CAD methods, BIM workflows, automation, software utilization, and document control.
  • Participate in project coordination and constructability meetings and communicate technical risks and recommended solutions.
  • Support employee onboarding, technical training, project recovery efforts, and department process improvement.

  • Experience providing advanced technical guidance to experienced drafting and BIM professionals.
  • Ability to develop practical drafting standards, procedures, review processes, and technical resources.
  • Strong understanding of project schedules, drafting labor estimates, budgets, and resource requirements.
  • Ability to analyze project performance and recommend improvements without compromising quality.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence technical outcomes and provide leadership without formal supervisory authority.
