Part-time Library Reference Associate

The Jennie King Mellon Library at Chatham University is accepting applications for a Part-Time Library Reference Associate.

This unique opportunity will allow the successful candidate to gain experience in reference services, supervising students, and handling circulation duties.

Reference Associates are the primary point of contact for library related questions at the library service desk.

There is also opportunity to gain experience in library instruction and other projects as needed.

Work will not exceed 20 hours per week, evenings and weekends are required. Recent MLIS graduates and currently enrolled MLIS students are encouraged to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Present a professional, personable and friendly demeanor at the library service desk

  • Answer general reference and circulation questions; and assist patrons in use of library resources.

  • Perform circulation related tasks including answering policy questions, checking out/in books, room keys, and other circulating resources

  • Assist with supervision of student employees

  • Identify building issues and contact proper departmental personnel

  • Follow library policy and procedures

  • As shift dictates, open/close the library building

Qualifications:

  • MLlSdegree or current enrollment in an MLIS program

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Knowledge of basic academic library research materials

  • Substantial interpersonal skills

  • Considerable oral and written communication skills

Salary Range:

$16.00per hour. 20-hour work week.
