Kiddie Park Party & Rides Host

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Kiddie Park Operator, you will perform various tasks related to the operations of all rides within Kiddie Park. Highly enthusiastic staff will have the opportunity to become Birthday Party Hosts and ticket clerks. You are to learn basic ride operations, a point-of-sale register, and cash handling. You will have constant direct guest interaction and must always exhibit awesome guest service.

As a Kiddie Park Party and Rides Host, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Learn to safely and properly operate all rides owned and operated by the San Antonio Zoo.
  • Approach each guest with an authentic greeting within 60 seconds upon entering Kiddie Park.
  • After every guest interaction, thank them and be sure every guest leaves satisfied with their Kiddie Park experience.
  • Ensure all opening and closing procedures for Kiddie Park are complete.
  • Operate leaf blowers when needed.
  • Ensure exterior areas of rides, including the sitting, loading, and surrounding areas, are clear of any trash or debris.
  • Monitor rider safety and take necessary measures to ensure riders’ behavior does not endanger themselves, zoo employees, or other passengers.
  • Report any unsafe conditions to leadership.
  • Ensure each guest meets rider age safety requirements before loading rides.
  • Assist guests with mobility issues with getting on and off the rides.
  • Adhere to all policies set forth by San Antonio Zoo.
  • Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside the Zoo, showing hospitality to all.
  • Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and the animals we protect.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Performs other work-related duties as required and assigned.

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:

  • Must be a minimum age of 16 or older.
  • Friendly, outgoing personality.
  • Ability to use various types of electronic cash registers.
  • Six (6) months in a theme park or hospitality industry is preferred.
  • Six (6) months of cash register/cash-handling experience in a retail operation is preferred.
  • Six (6) months customer services industry is preferred.
  • Ability to relate effectively with the public, especially school-age children, and older adults.
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen.
  • Must be able to work in varying climates and weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, or cold)
  • We enjoy year-round operation for all staff, must be available day, nights, weekends, and occasional special after-hour assignments.
  • Successful completion of IRT certification is required for continued employment (training provided on-site)
