Summary
Under the supervision of the Dean, part-time faculty are required to provide quality instruction in the classroom settings, whether seated or online (synchronous or asynchronous) and to assume responsibilities designed to enhance the program and Johnston Community College as assigned by the Dean.
Knowledge & Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Providing instruction in classroom settings.
  • Evaluating student learning.
  • Maintaining accurate student records.
  • Attending adjunct instructor meetings (limited).
  • Contributing to effective relationships between the College and affiliating agencies.
  • Complying with all policy requirements of the institution.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and Associate Vice-President of Business, Industry, Logistics, and Transportation.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum & Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education Minimum: Bachelor's degree or higher in the teaching or related discipline OR an Associate's degree and five (5) or more years of full-time equivalent experience in the discipline field through: work experience, body of work, technical and performance competency, records of publications, certifications, or other qualifying credentials. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Working knowledge/utilization of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications.
Experience Minimum:
Evidence of part-time teaching or instruction.
Education Preferred:
  • A Master's degree in Digital Media or closely related field.
  • Five or more years of experience using the following Adobe Creative Cloud applications: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver.
  • Two or more years of experience creating interactive ePublications and animations using Adobe Animate, Flash, or related applications.
  • Two or more years of experience editing and producing finished video projects using Adobe Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro, or related applications.
  • One or more of the following: currently valid Adobe certifications in one or more Adobe Creative Cloud applications, currently valid Adobe Specialist certification in Web Design or Visual Design, or an equivalent combination of currently valid certifications relevant to the Digital Media industry.
  • Familiarity with a course management system such as Blackboard.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with learning outcomes assessment.
  • Demonstrated innovation within the field of education and/or technology.
  • Evidence of effective problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Evidence of a career that includes a strong work ethic with a proven track record of project completion, multi-tasking, and the ability to handle high-pressure environments.
  • Evidence of a willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth.

Experience Preferred:
Minimum of the equivalent of one academic year of full-time teaching experience at the community college level.

Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of descriptive data and information, such as policy manuals, Employee Handbook, SACSCOC manuals, program guidelines, course syllabi, and course textbooks.
Mathematical Skills
Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, ability to calculate decimals and percentages.
Reasoning Ability
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, teaching pedagogy, and leadership. Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution.
Computer Skills
A complete knowledge of Microsoft Products as used in overall management in an educational environment is required. Additionally, comprehensive knowledge of multi-media programs (see Education Preferred tab) for use in the classroom.
