Lake Forest High School is seeking a Part Time Digital Media Specialist.
Description:
The Digital Media Specialist position bridges the Athletics, Activities, and Communications teams at Lake Forest High School. Through timely and consistent branding, digital graphics, social media, website updates, the Digital Media Specialist builds relationships and fosters school spirit and pride, helping us tell the stories of the LFHS athletics program.
The position requires the ability to create and post content and event updates promptly on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Hours are flexible based on the season. The position is eligible for remote work opportunities.
Salary and Benefits
  • Base Starting Rate - $30.00/Hour for 15 hours/week
  • Retirement - IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund) - the district pays the full district premium, employees pay the 4.5% employee contribution

Essential Functions:
  • Build and regularly maintain athletic webpages (using CMS and rSchoolToday)
  • Update and maintain various social media platforms (Facebook/Instagram/etc.)
    • Post daily varsity games (contests) and training schedules (Instagram)
    • Post daily athletic scores, results, and highlights (Facebook)
    • Post weekly athlete highlights/profiles (Instagram and Facebook)
    • Post weekly coach highlights/profiles (Instagram and Facebook)
    • Post quarterly season summaries (Instagram and Facebook)
  • Liaise with coaches and assistant coaches to solicit information about team updates, scores, and student profiles; track down updates and contents if necessary
  • Assist the athletic department with accountability and participate in social media goal-setting for the coaching staff to ensure consistent updates and regular content is submitted.
  • Liaise with the Principal's Office and the Communications Office to provide weekly athletic updates and highlights for Principal newsletters and other communications.
    • Flag exceptional scores, performance, and celebrations as they occur
  • Monitor social media channels for industry trends; refine existing and propose new social media strategy elements
  • Create digital graphic files and other visual assets for use on scoreboards and other district screens
  • Create and maintain a database of team/sport social media accounts
  • Regularly reinforce best practices and Acceptable Use Policy Guidelines with coaches, teams, and individual athletes posting on official team social media accounts
  • Collaborate with Communications Manager to incorporate a quarterly "Scout Alumni" feature of alumni playing at the undergraduate or professional level into Insight 115 print, website, and other digital outlets
  • Meet weekly with the Assistant Athletic Director/Athletic Director to discuss upcoming events and goal-setting.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, and Licensure (required and preferred):
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution
  • Two to three years of professional experience with website design, social media, photography, videography, etc., prefered

Competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities):
  • Passion for social media and proficiency with major social media platforms and social media management tools
  • Interest and knowledge of high school/IHSA sports and activities preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of various CMS and basic coding skills preferred, but not required
  • Experience with social media scheduling platform preferred, but not required
  • Excellent writing skills; ability to succinctly capture information and relay it quickly
  • Team player and collaborator; excellent interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter; ability to self-manage while building strong relationships with coaching staff
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Proficient in Google Platform

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and reach. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, and lift. Repetitive motions are required, especially for keyboarding, which involves substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The employee must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly subject to inside environmental conditions and is subject to noise associated with both office and educational environments.
