Job description

DEPARTMENT:                   Security and Transportation

REPORTS TO:                    Ballpark Security Manager

STATUS:                              Part-Time; Non-Exempt

Your role as a Security Officer (Part-Time):   

You will be primarily responsible for patrolling the ballpark during shifts, ensuring a safe ballpark environment for guests and employees.

All the responsibilities we will trust you with:                                  

  • Patrol all ballpark property as required and ensures, in a friendly and professional manner, the security of employees, contracted building partners and visitors. Provide excellent customer service to the security of employees, contracted building partners and visitors by keeping a friendly and professional demeanor
  • Conduct magnetometer screening and bag search screening for all the security of employees, contracted building partners and visitors
  • Regulate and control access to restricted and secure areas
  • Responds to safety and criminal incidents as they arise, taking appropriate action in accordance with training and policy, including contacting and coordinating with emergency services when necessary
  • Conduct detailed internal investigations into incidents and provide detailed, objective reports for each shift or incident
  • Attend briefing sessions to learn what events and activities are occurring within the ballpark and ascertains the status of event "load-ins" and "load-outs”
  • Act as property first responder to alarms, medical calls, property damages, etc.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality on sensitive issues
  • Maintain accurate notes and log information as required; ensure that all pass-on information is communicated to the next shift
  • Complete all activity logs, incident reports, repair forms and other documents in a clear, concise and legible format in a timely, efficient manner
  • Greet all clients, employees, guests and vendors at Petco Park in a professional manner
  • Follow established Ballpark Security protocols and procedures at all times
  • Collaborate with other departments within the organization to strategically create positive publicity for the Club
  • Represents the Club in a positive and professional manner at all times
  • Other duties as assigned

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most:            

  • Maintain consistent, punctual, and reliable attendance
  • Possess high degree of discretion, integrity, professionalism, and accountability
  • Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Experience in report writing, Avigilon CCTV System a plus but not necessary
  • Having previous experience working in large public assembly facilities is a plus but not necessary
  • Large event security experience is a plus but not necessary
  • Having completed courses in criminal justice or security training by recognized academy, school or organization is a plus but not necessary
  • Must have BSIS Security Guard or be able to obtain in the first 30 days
  • Previous Law Enforcement/Public Safety experience a plus but not necessary
  • Fluently bilingual in English/Spanish a plus

You will be required to meet the following:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have a valid current driver's license with a good driving record (subject to review)
  • Non-Event Day Availability: Part Time Security Officers must be available to work at least three shifts per month. Shifts may be eight hour or four hour assignments based on operational needs. Part Time Security Officers will be scheduled on an as needed basis and are not guaranteed a minimum number of hours.
  • Event Day Availability: Available to work a minimum of 75% of ALL scheduled events during a calendar year, including Padres home games, full venue events, and Gallagher Square concerts
  • Minimum physical requirements: able to travel to and gain access to various areas of the ballpark, stand for prolonged periods of time during games and events; able to ascend and descend stairs; able to lift and transport up to 25 pounds; able to ride a bicycle for prolonged periods of time
  • As a condition of employment, you must successfully complete all post-offer, pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to a background check

Pay and additional compensation:

Per the California pay transparency law, the hourly pay rate for this position is $21.14. Part time, non-union employees are subject to the San Diego Living Wage Ordinance and rates will increase accordingly.
