Job description

SALARY RANGE: $75,000 - $95,000 per year

In determining compensation, various factors will be considered, including but not limited to, educational background; relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, market factors; and geographic location.

BENEFITS: All eligible full time employees will receive Paid Annual Leave (PAL) starting at 23 days per year and raising by one day per year following one full calendar year of employment (January through December). They will also be offered health benefits and will be automatically enrolled in employer paid short and long term disability and life insurance.

All full time and part time employees have access to participate in the Delphinus Engineering 401(k) which includes company match of 25% up to 10% deferred.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Delphinus Engineering is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support our Marine Engineering Division. This position will support tasking for the Navy in design, development, review, and life cycle support of shipboard and shore based systems to include hardware, software, and network interfaces. Applicants must have experience in design, assembly, test, troubleshooting, and sustainment of systems, including the ability to work with cross functional teams to support the electrical aspects of new systems design, develop new features, enhance existing systems, and create, modify, and/or use system documentation and schematics. The position will complete assigned tasking and work with teams including Navy customer personnel and other organizations to provide solutions to the fleet.

LOCATION: Norfolk, VA.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the engineering team in Norfolk with Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) systems delivered to the Navy.
  • Support the Delphinus team with design and development of solutions for Navy projects, including new applications and upgrades to existing HM&E systems for both shipboard installations and shore based labs.
  • Recommend solutions, participate in design reviews, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on system architectures, frameworks, design decisions, and development strategies, and optimize development, test, and installation plans.
  • Generate, modify, and review requirements and design specifications and assist with the Navy’s systems engineering process for development and test HM&E systems.
  • Generate and execute test plans and procedures. Support performance of validation and verification testing of HM&E systems.
  • Troubleshoot, modify, construct and test various types of electrical and/or Navy shipboard HM&E equipment.
  • Support embedded and software based systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers, HMIs, network based devices.
  • Create and update technical documentation such as users’ manuals, product specifications, and training materials.
  • Apply technical knowledge of systems engineering principles in order to put equipment in operational condition and solve complex problems.
  • Troubleshoot and correct malfunctions using specialized test and diagnostic equipment such as network traffic analyzers, digital multi-meters, or oscilloscopes.
  • Make recommendations for improvements or modifications to correct problems.
  • Track issues identified in test or deployment to resolution through the product lifecycle.
  • Prepare operating and malfunction reports and related documentation.
  • Assist with quality assurance testing of assemblies and equipment fabricated by other technicians.
  • Participate in special projects as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 3 or more years of experience with control systems in industrial, maritime, or defense environments

SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience with development and testing of shipboard HM&E systems preferred.
  • Must have ability to read and interpret schematics.
  • Experience with PLCs and ladder logic diagrams preferred.
  • Basic electrical principals and how to effectively troubleshoot equipment.
  • Experience with Navy systems preferred.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (especially Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Attention to detail and meticulous logging of testing, troubleshooting steps, and findings.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates must have an active government security clearance or the ability to obtain security clearance.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel may be up to 25%.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The work environment is primarily in-office with the option to work remotely for a portion of the work-week. Occasional visits to contractor and supplier offices and client sites which may be office, lab, or shipboard environments. Work may be performed onboard US Navy Ships (pier side and at sea), which requires proper safety precautions and ability to go up and down shipboard stairways (ladders); work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes, or equipment.
