Job description

Your Opportunity
Communities everywhere share the need for clean water, and the challenges are getting more complex every day. Stantec's US Mountain West Water team is hiring a Senior Civil Engineer to lead the hydraulic analysis, modeling, and planning of large-scale conveyance and pumping infrastructure across the Pacific Northwest and Mountain West.
You will step into a high-impact technical leadership role on regional water supply programs: large-diameter transmission mains, storage tanks and reservoirs, high-capacity pump and lift stations, river crossings, and corridor and site alternatives analyses that shape multi-hundred-million-dollar capital programs. You will partner directly with our Regional Delivery Leadership and our most strategic municipal and regional clients. Grow with us, H2O+U.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as Planning Task Lead, Hydraulics Lead, or Engineer of Record on complex water, wastewater, and stormwater conveyance programs.
  • Lead alternatives analyses for transmission corridors and storage tank sites, including multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) screening, weighting frameworks, and Board-ready alternatives recommendations.
  • Lead sequencing and resilience evaluations: hydraulic and operational performance across demand milestones, single-point-of-failure inventory, n-1 redundancy, and phased capacity build-out strategies.
  • Direct hydraulic modeling (steady-state, extended-period, transient/surge), including WaterCAD model maintenance, scenario development, and flow allocation planning across member agencies.
  • Integrate hydraulic, GIS, cost, and SME evaluation results into clear technical memoranda, Board presentations, and program decision support tools.
  • Provide technical leadership and QA/QC across the team; mentor developing engineers and modelers.
  • Build and grow trusted client relationships; lead pursuits, proposals, and client interviews.
  • Represent Stantec in professional organizations and at industry conferences (AWWA, WEF, PNWS-AWWA, PNCWA).

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Deep expertise in conveyance design: large-diameter transmission and force mains, sanitary collection (open channel hydraulics, diurnal patterns, flow diversion), pipe rehabilitation (CIPP, pipe bursting, sliplining), and trenchless construction (HDD, microtunneling, auger boring).
  • Proven leadership of pump stations, lift stations, reservoirs, storage tanks, and wet weather storage.
  • Demonstrated experience leading corridor and site alternatives analyses, MCDM screening, and Board-level alternatives recommendations on regional water supply or transmission programs.
  • Strong proficiency with hydraulic and design software (WaterCAD, InfoWater, InfoWorks ICM, PCSWMM, EPANET, EPA SWMM, HEC-RAS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS), plus transient analysis.
  • Experience coordinating hydraulic modeling outputs with GIS layers, cost frameworks, and SME evaluation results to inform planning-level decisions.
  • Established client relationships in the Pacific Northwest or Mountain West strongly preferred.
  • Track record of winning and delivering pursuits as a technical lead or Engineer of Record.
  • Strong communicator and team leader; skilled at building consensus and leading through complexity.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; Master's preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in water/wastewater conveyance planning, design, and hydraulic modeling, with senior technical leadership.
  • Washington PE license required; additional Mountain West state PEs preferred.
