Security Officer

Part-Time | Day Shift | Friday-Sunday | 30 Hours/Week (0.75 FTE)

Schedule: Three 10-hour shifts. This position may participate in an on-call rotation based on departmental needs.

Pagosa Springs Medical Center is seeking a dependable, professional Security Officer to help maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for our patients, visitors, employees, and medical staff. This position plays a critical role in emergency response, facility security, de-escalation, and customer service while working closely with clinical staff, leadership, and local law enforcement. The position is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors through patrols, surveillance, access control, and emergency response.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Patrol hospital buildings, grounds, and parking areas to identify safety and security concerns.
  • Monitor surveillance cameras, alarms, and access control systems.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, disturbances, alarms, and security incidents.
  • Assist with fire, disaster, and emergency response procedures.
  • Control facility access and verify visitor identification as appropriate.
  • De-escalate disruptive or potentially violent situations using sound judgment and professionalism.
  • Assist clinical staff during behavioral emergencies and application of clinical restraints when necessary.
  • Complete accurate incident reports and documentation.
  • Provide escorts and wayfinding assistance to patients and visitors.
  • Protect hospital property and confidential information.
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency responders when needed.
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and customer-focused environment throughout the organization.
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum two (2) years of hospital security, law enforcement, military police, or related security experience.
  • Current AHA Heartsaver BLS certification.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies.
Preferred
  • Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field.
  • Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification.
  • Previous healthcare security experience.
  • Bilingual abilities.

Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent walking, standing, stair climbing, lifting, and working both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. The Security Officer must be able to respond quickly during emergencies and safely perform the physical requirements of the position. The role may involve exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, aggressive individuals, and stressful situations.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Compensation Range: $18.00 - $22.38 hourly, based on years of relevant experience. "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader. 
  • Benefits: Benefits include sick leave, health, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, long-term disability and option for short-term disability, and retirement plan with employer contribution.  
  • Job Type: Part-time (0.75 FTE) 
  • Shift Type: Day shift –  Friday through Sunday
