Job Overview

The Specimen Collector is responsible for the accurate and professional collection of patient specimens in physician offices and clinical environments. Specimens may include urine, oral fluid, and blood samples depending on the needs of the assigned clinic location.This role ensures the integrity of all specimens collected by following established Ethos protocols and regulatory requirements. The Specimen Collector also assists with requisition completion, patient information verification, specimen preparation for shipment, and data entry into electronic systems as needed.The position requires strong attention to detail, professionalism in patient-facing environments, and the ability to work independently under remote supervision.

Requirements

Essential Responsibilities

  • Collect patient specimens including urine and oral fluid samples in accordance with Ethos procedures
  • Perform anterior nasal swabs for COVID-19 testing when required by clinic accounts
  • Perform blood specimen collection via venipuncture when applicable to assigned locations
  • Follow established patient identification and specimen collection protocols
  • Maintain specimen integrity by following Ethos standard operating procedures and reference materials
  • Complete and verify laboratory requisition forms and associated documentation
  • Label and package specimens appropriately for transport to the laboratory
  • Track collected specimens by completing required documentation including initials and collection date/time
  • Enter patient information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) or EMR when required
  • Coordinate with clinic staff to obtain any missing patient or order information
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and clean working environment while adhering to compliance standards
  • Represent Ethos professionally when interacting with patients, providers, and clinic staff
  • Participate in required training programs and continuing education opportunities
  • Complete assigned computer-based learning modules and maintain competency documentation
  • Partner with Regional and Territory Managers to support clinic workflows and specimen collection protocols
  • Perform other duties related to specimen collection and field operations as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Prior specimen collection, laboratory, or medical experience preferred but not required
  • Experience in customer service, logistics, or data entry environments preferred
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Additional training may be provided if new testing services are introduced at client locations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work within established procedures, policies, and compliance guidelines
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail when completing documentation and specimen handling
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
  • Comfortable utilizing technology to perform work functions in a remote environment, including mobile applications and online training systems
