Position Title: SUN Extended Day Assistant - East County: Woodland and Wilkes K-5.

Reports To: SUN Community School Site Manager

Classification: Part-time, Non-Exempt,

Compensation: $18.30/hr; up to 15 hrs/week (part-time, non-exempt); This position is eligible for sick time only

TYPICAL SCHEDULE: Mon-Thursday 2pm-6pm; Actual schedule to be determined between employee and supervisor.

Our work springs from the core belief in Latino community self-determination, that is, the ability of community members to participate meaningfully in the decisions that affect their lives and the lives of their families. We actively partner across a variety of city, county, state, and community organizations to deliver training and support, a wide range of services, as well as influence policy.


CANDIDATE PROFILE

Latino Network seeks a bilingual, bi-cultural mission-driven professional with proven non-profit and community experience to provide SUN Community School support. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves position with the capacity to impact the lives of Latino youth and their families. If you are caring, resourceful, outcome-oriented and able to build strong relationships, then Latino Network is the place for you.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

The School Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN) program seeks to improve the lives of youth, their families, and the community through partnering with local school communities to extend the school day to improve children’s educational success and family stability. Latino Network manages eight SUN Community Schools where we offer extended day services for students, families, and the school community.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Extended Day Programming:

  • Assist SUN Community Site Manager with daily program operation when needed
  • Teach extended-day enrichment and academic classes at least 2-3 times a week
  • Cover classes
  • Assist with any food pantry distribution as needed
  • Take daily attendance and insert into data system regularly
  • Assist in creating classes in Grouptrail database system in between programming
  • Effectively work with individuals of diverse backgrounds
  • Assist with outreach on days there are no classes to teach: phone calls home, flyers, enrollment packets
  • Actively develop rapport with students, staff, and families
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for participants by aligning with Reynolds School District, Portland Public School District, and Latino Network policy
  • Work with students needing behavioral support
  • Attend and complete trainings required for position
Requirements:

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Training and a minimum of two years’ experience in the field of education, social services or related human service industry
  • Ability to communicate directly and effectively both orally and in writing, in both English and Spanish
  • Cultural connections to and lived experience within communities of color
  • Lived experience that reflects that of the students and families to be served in the school community
  • Positive behavior management and communication skills
  • Has the ability to engage a broad spectrum of community members in Latino Network programs and activities
  • Well-versed in Google docs and Microsoft Suite, especially Google sheets and excel for data tracking
  • Must be able to take initiative and be organized, responsible, and accountable
  • Have the ability to multi-task, maintain composure, and communicate respectfully and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work as a team member and support the mission and goals of Latino Network.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and approach to colleagues, supervisors, staff and families
  • Able to address any concerns directly with involved parties and avoid gossip

ADDITIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Regularly work in the school and in the community as needed.
  • Evening and weekend availability may be required.
  • Work hours are flexible to accommodate program implementation; long hours during peak periods.
  • Must have reliable transportation to the school site and for tasks needed for its programs.
  • May require heavy lifting and walking during events and outreach activities.
  • All staff are required to undergo and pass a criminal background check including fingerprinting and obtain a school district badge before starting work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather), and extreme heat (non-weather). This position requires frequent computer use. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
