Position Summary:
The Cultural Heritage Coordinator supports the Yakutat Tlingit Tribe's cultural programming that preserves, strengthens, and shares Yakutat Tlingit heritage, language, and traditional knowledge.
Working under the direction of the Executive Director, this position assists with the planning, coordination, and communication of cultural programs, events, and related administrative activities. The Coordinator works closely with the Cultural Heritage Activities Coordinator, Elders, artists, educators, and community partners to ensure that programming is well organized and accessible to Tribal members.
This is a part-time position with training provided, ideal for someone who is community-oriented, organized, and eager to support cultural education and heritage efforts for the Tribe.

• Yakutat Tlingit culture, traditions, and community values.
• Principles of community-based cultural education and heritage preservation.
Skills in:
• Organization, scheduling, and project coordination.
• Building positive working relationships within the community.
• Communicating clearly with staff, Elders, and participants.
• Basic computer use, data entry, and documentation.
Ability to:
• Work responsibly and independently with guidance.
• Manage multiple small projects or events simultaneously.
• Be flexible and willing to learn new administrative and technical skills.
• Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity.
• Work occasional evenings or weekends as program activities require.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Work is performed in office settings, classrooms, and cultural activity environments. Duties may require standing, moving materials, and occasional travel. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility:
This is a non-supervisory position that may provide functional direction, guidance and instruction to other employees when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience or strong interest in cultural programming, education, or community coordination preferred.
  • Familiarity with Yakutat Tlingit culture, language, or traditional arts strongly preferred.
  • Must pass a National Criminal and State background check.
  • This position is designated as having control over Indian children and will also require a fingerprint based criminal background check.
  • Valid Alaska Driver's License required.
  • Training will be provided.
