Overview of SANDAG and IT Department

The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) is both a metropolitan planning organization and a council of governments, bringing together local decision-makers to develop solutions to regional issues including improving equity, transportation, air quality, clean energy, economic development, goods movement, public health, public safety, housing, and more.
The Information Technology (IT) department plays a pivotal role in supporting the agency's mission by providing innovative and efficient technology solutions. IT is responsible for ensuring the seamless operation, security, and advancement of SANDAG's IT infrastructure and business information systems. The IT department is dedicated to fostering a secure, reliable, and innovative IT environment that empowers SANDAG to achieve its objectives and better serve the community. Role
If you are a student or recent graduate, a paid internship at SANDAG may be a great way to launch your career! With the guidance and mentoring of senior staff, this position will provide a "hands-on" learning experience in Cybersecurity. The experience is substantive, supporting real-world public-sector processes and initiatives. If selected for an internship, you would be fully integrated into your team and given responsibilities that are both learning opportunities and a chance for you to contribute to the overall success of the agency.
The Cybersecurity intern role will support day-to-day security operations, vulnerabilities assessments and system security configuration testing, processes and procedures reviews, reporting, and ongoing initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinate Internal and External Security Penetration Testing and Reporting
- Coordinate Third Party Cybersecurity Risk Assessments
- Support agency Cyber/Information Security Training Program
- Assist in review and update of Information Technology Security processes and procedures
- Assist in internal IT Risk Assessment activities
- Monitor and triage security related tickets and requests
Typical Qualifications
- Graduate or undergraduate level coursework in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Familiarity or experience with security tools such as SIEM platforms and Endpoint Protection solutions.
- Understanding Cloud Security concepts and platforms such as Microsoft Azure.
- Familiarity with NIST Cybersecurity Framework, SOC 2 (System and Organization Controls 2), and CIS Controls (Center for Internet Security).
- Proficient Microsoft Office skills, including MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Internet research.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a willingness to learn and take initiative.
- Ability to communicate with various audiences using interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to perform a variety of tasks typical of an entry-level Cybersecurity analyst position.
Intern Salaries
Pursuing Undergraduate Degree: $20.00/hour
Bachelor's degree or higher: $23.00/hour.
One-year opportunity working 25-29 hours per week, Monday - Friday during regular business hours.

This paid internship is offered as hybrid, one-year position, working approximately 25-29 hours per week. This is neither a seasonal internship nor a remote position.The work is primarily performed during normal business hours (8am-5pm) from our downtown San Diego office location, are you able to commit to the part-time schedule and working onsite?
