Chesapeake Shipbuilding is seeking a skilled and dependable Yard Electrician to join our team in Salisbury, Maryland. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the shipyard's electrical infrastructure to support safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operations. The ideal candidate will have experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems in a marine, industrial, or heavy manufacturing environment and be committed to quality workmanship and workplace safety.

YARD ELECTRCIAN


REPORTS TO: Electric Supervisor/On-Site Foreman/Shipyard Superintendent


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Yard Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems throughout the shipyard.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & TASKS:

  • Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems including power distribution, cabling, breaker panels, lighting, and control circuits across shipyard facilities
  • Diagnose electrical faults using test equipment and schematics; safely isolate, repair, or replace damaged cables, breakers, and electrical components
  • Inspect electrical infrastructure regularly to identify wear, corrosion, or hazards in harsh marine and industrial environments
  • Coordinate with production teams to support ongoing shipyard operations and minimize downtime
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and inspection reports
  • All other duties as required


Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Previous electrician experience working in a shipyard, marine, industrial, or heavy manufacturing environment preferred
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs and electrical inspections
  • Knowledge of corrosive or harsh environmental conditions and appropriate mitigation techniques
  • Experience reading and understanding blueprints, sketches, wiring schematics, technical manuals, and templates
  • Familiar with industry codes and regulations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of and use of all tools of their trade to accomplish the more complex tasks associated with electrical installation
  • Safe use of all tools and equipment
  • Able to work independently and in a team



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • All types of physical movement are required for this position to successfully perform the essential functions
  • Ability to use upper and lower extremities
  • Ability to work outside in heat, inclement weather, and cold
  • Ability to crawl, kneel, crouch, climb, and bend around and under equipment, on ladders up to 24' at heights up to 70', stairs, scaffolds, through small accesses, enter inside of tanks, and confined spaces, through hatches, and manholes
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain, including loose pack gravel
  • Ability to work over bodies of water
  • Operate in isolation within the skeleton of ships, wearing heavy protective gear and carrying equipment weighing up to 75lbs


MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Normal level of visual acuity needed. Must be able to understand and follow directions. Normal hearing level needed. Hand-eye coordination required.


HAZARDS: Weather, fumes, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, equipment, and vibration.



SHIFTS:

  • Monday – Friday
  • 40+ hours per week
  • Day Shift: 6:00am – 2:30pm

Overtime and Weekend required based on business needs
