Project Overview:

The Knoxville Engineering Office is the engineering hub for the Nuclear, Security, & Environmental business, supporting multiple projects. Projects involve government work throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE.

Job Summary:

This senior-level position will allow you to perform assignments that utilize your professional working knowledge and abilities through the application of standard engineering design techniques, applicable codes and standards, procedures, and criteria.  You may develop standard instrumentation & control systems deliverables including instrument datasheets & specifications, control system logic diagrams, support the development of piping and instrumentation drawings, and more. You will exercise judgement in performing your assigned duties using industry experience and methods prescribed by your supervisor.  The engineer will work with other control systems engineers, other disciplines/functions, and/or the client.  The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving skills, a can-do attitude, and a desire to innovate design. As a senior engineer, you may be asked to coach and mentor more junior engineers. #LI-EH1

Major Responsibilities:
  • Plans and conducts independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of Control Systems engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project 
  • Leads the design, development, modification and evaluation of Control System's components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​ 
  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management​ 
  • Develops conceptual Control Systems engineering designs for projects having unique requirements.
  • Participates in the design, development, modification and evaluation of Control Systems components and processes
  • Prepares and reviews various Control Systems' standard deliverables, such as logic, control narratives, instrument installation details, datasheets, material requisitions, specifications, etc.​ 
  • Performs Technical Bid Evaluations for Control Systems' components
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting​ 
  • Coordinates with client representatives, as directed, to obtain their approval of on Control Systems aspects of the work​ 
  • Conducts or leads special studies of new Control Systems engineering methods, materials and techniques​ 
  • Mentors and coaches Control Systems engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development​ 
Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or other related Engineering discipline from an accredited institution with 10-13  years of relevant work experience, or in lieu of degree, 14-17 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)
