Part Time Contractor information

What is a part time contractor?

A part time contractor is an individual who is hired to perform specific tasks or services for a company on a part-time basis, typically without being considered a full employee. They usually work under a contract that outlines the scope, duration, and payment terms of their work. Unlike full-time employees, part time contractors often have more flexible schedules, are responsible for their own taxes, and may not receive employee benefits such as health insurance or paid time off. This arrangement is common in industries like construction, IT, consulting, and creative services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time contractor?

To thrive as a Part Time Contractor, you need relevant expertise in your field, strong self-management abilities, and a track record of delivering quality work independently. Familiarity with project management tools like Trello or Asana, digital communication platforms, and sometimes specific certifications or licenses are often required. Exceptional time management, adaptability, and proactive communication are the soft skills that distinguish top contractors. These skills and qualities are crucial for meeting client expectations, managing variable workloads, and maintaining long-term professional relationships.

How does working as a part-time contractor impact collaboration with full-time employees and project teams?

As a part-time contractor, you may work remotely or on-site and often join existing teams for specific projects or tasks. While you typically have more flexible hours, communication and coordination are crucial, especially when aligning your schedule with full-time staff and meeting project deadlines. Many organizations use collaboration tools, regular check-ins, and clear documentation to ensure contractors are integrated into the workflow and can contribute effectively. Building relationships with team members and maintaining proactive communication can help you overcome any barriers associated with part-time or remote status.

Job description

IT Support Specialist — Part-Time or Contract

Company: KPM Multifamily Location: Houston, TX — On-site, with travel between properties Job Type: Part-Time or Contract Compensation: Hourly, commensurate with experience

About the Role

KPM Multifamily is looking for a dependable, hands-on IT Support Specialist to keep our Houston-area teams up and running. You'll be the go-to person when a phone won't connect, a laptop won't boot, or the internet drops at a property office. This is a practical, people-facing role — a good fit for someone who enjoys solving problems quickly and explaining fixes in plain language.

We're open to either a part-time employee or an independent contractor arrangement, whichever suits you better. Because our communities are spread across the Houston metro, you'll need to be willing to travel between properties on a regular basis. Scheduling is flexible and set in coordination with your availability.

What You'll Do

  • Set up, configure, and troubleshoot desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals
  • Support office phone systems, including VoIP handsets, extensions, voicemail, and call routing
  • Troubleshoot internet and network issues — routers, switches, Wi-Fi access points, and cabling
  • Create and manage user accounts, email, and access permissions
  • Install software updates and assist with basic security housekeeping
  • Provide friendly help-desk support to staff by phone, email, and in person
  • Track equipment inventory and coordinate with outside vendors or ISPs when needed
  • Document recurring issues and common fixes for the team

What We're Looking For

  • Hands-on experience supporting phone systems, computers, and internet/network connectivity
  • Working knowledge of Windows, common office software, and basic networking concepts
  • Ability to diagnose problems independently and know when to escalate
  • Clear, patient communication with non-technical coworkers
  • Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and willingness to travel regularly to properties across the Houston metro area
  • Comfortable lifting and moving equipment (up to 50 lbs)

Nice to Have

  • Prior IT support experience in property management, multifamily, or a multi-site business
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 admin, VoIP platforms, or property management software
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar certification

Compensation & Benefits

Pay is hourly and based on experience — tell us what you've done and we'll make a fair offer. We can structure this as part-time employment or as a contract engagement, so let us know your preference when you apply. Flexible scheduling with potential for expanded hours over time.
