Overview
Are you an experienced diesel mechanic looking to step out of the shop or earn extra income?
Advanced Technology Institute (ATI) is seeking skilled Diesel Technicians to teach hands-on training to the next generation of heavy vehicle professionals.
This part-time role is designed for experienced diesel technicians and mechanics who want to transition into a teaching role or supplement their income. Your real-world experience working on diesel engines, diagnostics, and repairs is what matters most-we'll provide the training and support to help you succeed as an instructor.
Prior teaching experience is not required - ATI provides the curriculum, lesson plans, and support.
Schedule
• Part-time, 20 hrs/week
• Flexible scheduling with day and evening options available
What You'll Do
• You will use your experience as a diesel technician to teach hands-on diesel repair and maintenance in a shop/lab environment
• Demonstrate real-world diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair techniques
• Guide students through practical exercises and industry-standard procedures
• Evaluate student progress and provide feedback to help them improve
• Maintain a safe, organized, and productive training environment
• Stay current with diesel technology and industry practices
What You'll Teach
Instructors are not expected to teach every subject area-assignments are aligned with your specific experience and strengths.
You will provide hands-on instruction across key areas of heavy vehicle and diesel technology, including:
• Diesel engines and fuel systems
• Electrical and electronic systems (basic and advanced)
• Brakes, steering, and driveline systems
• Hydraulics and Pneumatics
• Environmental Control Systems
• Preventive maintenance and diagnostic procedures
What We're Looking For
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of recent experience as a Diesel Technician, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Truck Technician, or related experience
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, systems, and repair techniques
• Ability to explain and demonstrate concepts to entry-level students
• Reliable, professional, and comfortable leading small groups
• Basic computer skills (for grading and communication)
Education:
• High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associate's degree preferred
