Job Description Summary:

The Religious Freedom & Human Dignity Student Fellows will help to define, manage and advance the Religious Freedom & Human Dignity Initiative. The Student Fellows will coordinate with Religious Freedom Organizations, assist with conferences, curriculum materials and support campus-wide efforts to increase awareness and understanding of religious freedom and human dignity. This is a hands-on opportunity for students to grow professionally, contribute meaningfully, and be part of a mission-driven team working on issues that matter across cultures, and disciplines. We encourage students of all majors and backgrounds to apply. This role is open to anyone who is willing to learn, contribute and grow.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Attend all mandatory student employee trainings and orientations (university and department level)

• Submit weekly email updates and reports to the RFHD Advisory Board and your assigned Faculty Supervisor and Lead Fellow

• Prepare for conferences by completing required tasks and paperwork (e.g. resume, cover letter, background research, summaries, or presentations)

• Complete the assigned RFHD Initiative Canvas course and other online trainings and certifications

• Follow all RFHD Initiative, University, Department and Human Resources policies

• Complete assigned readings, videos, and other foundational materials

• Create original content, research, and project summaries

• Assist in planning and executing retreats, forums, meetings, conferences, and RFHD activities

• Help obtain materials for events (e.g. folders, nametags, signage, supplies, etc.)

• Take attendance and notes at meetings and events

• Serve as a host, driver or guide for visiting speakers or special guests as needed

• Provide logistical support before, during, and after all RFHD events

• Assist in gathering and updating the RFHD Initiative database

• Must be available to assist with the annual RFHD conference held each April, which takes place between Winter and Spring semesters

• Commit to a minimum of one-year of service

• Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by faculty or the RFHD supervisor

Below are examples of areas where Student Fellows may contribute, depending on their interests, strengths, and the evolving needs of the Initiative.

• Computer Science or Information Systems - support may include:

  • Assisting with digital tools and conference app training and content

  • Organizing alumni data and managing post-conference information about participants and volunteers, which is used for reports by RFHD and the International Center for Law and Religion Studies (ICLRS)

• Marketing, Communications, or Social Media - support may include:

  • Creating and promoting digital content

  • Updating and curating RFHD's Linkedin page and website

  • Drafting press releases for Church News, Deseret News, and other publications

• Peacebuilding, Political Science, International Relations, Legal Studies, Religious Studies, English, or Pacific/Asian Studies - support may include:

  • Developing country-specific frameworks

  • Designing flyers and materials tailored to key regions

  • Conducting research projects that advance RFHD goals

  • Writing research summaries and event reports

  • Assisting with publication drafts, editing, and storytelling

• Business, Science, and Other Disciplines - students in these and other fields are encouraged to apply. Depending on interests and initiative needs, they may contribute to project coordination, data analysis, event logistics, innovation planning, or bring fresh insights from their academic training.

Education:

Upper-Division Courses preferred

Work Experience:

At least 6 months of relevant work, volunteer, academic, or service experience (flexible based on demonstrated interest and initiative)
