THIS IS A PART-TIME POSITION (30 HOURS PER WEEK)

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Food Service Specialist 1 assists with producing the highest quality customer service for food/drinks within a restaurant or similar service area for UT Health Science Center's campus. Specific duties for this position include food/drink preparation, operating a cash register, setting up and breaking down work areas, maintaining cleanliness and functionality, and providing excellent customer service. Additionally, this position may rotate to different locations or storefronts on campus and is expected to perform duties at any location that falls under the helm of Food Services.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:ย ย 

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of experience working in a food service environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of area practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrates good customer service skills, basic math skills, and fundamental computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests and team members.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.ย 
  • Ability to work quickly, yet efficiently and thoroughly.
  • Ability to solve problems.ย 
  • Ability to follow directions with attention to detail.ย 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle currency and solve problems.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:ย Ability to meet physical demands for an entire shift, including standing for long periods.

  1. Prepares ingredients, beverages, and food according to recipes and directions for distribution. Cooks and prepares food for service.ย 
  2. Completes transactions as a cashier, as needed.ย 
  3. Monitors food temperatures and records.ย 
  4. Sets up and breaks down food stations.ย 
  5. Completes production sheets. Labels and dates food in the cooler.ย 
  6. Compiles lists of items to be ordered and assists with placing the order. Replenishes food line items and stocks to appropriate levels.
  7. Stores food safely by following procedures.
  8. Cleans and maintains work areas, including floors, facilities, utensils, and equipment.ย 
  9. Collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers.
  10. Greets and serves each customer with excellent customer service.ย 
  11. Washes pots, pans, and other items ensuring sanitary handling; organizes returns and equipment to the proper location for storage.
  12. Attends trainings, as necessary.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.ย
