Position Overview:
This role involves teaching an introductory cybersecurity course to high school students earning college credit through our Early College Program. The instructor will present college-level content in an accessible format, support student learning, and encourage engagement in course activities. This position requires in-person teaching.
Key Responsibilities:
โ€ข Meet all scheduled classes on the assigned day/time
โ€ข Regularly hold three office hours per week
โ€ข Notify Program Chair of any absences from scheduled classes and providing instructional materials and directions to ensure consistent and sequential classroom instruction (note: absences should be rare and unavoidable)
โ€ข Participate in departmental curriculum development, and review and update course curricula when possible
โ€ข Demonstrate committed participation in student learning outcome assessment and college-wide initiatives, including data collection, analysis, curriculum changes, and goal setting
โ€ข Use of course texts, outlines, and other curriculum materials in accordance with college and department policies. When an established syllabus is provided and the course is a prerequisite for other courses, any significant deviations must be approved by the department chair.
โ€ข Respond to the chair and administrative requests in a timely manner and complete all responsibilities effectively; prompt in keeping appointments, attending meetings (when possible), and beginning classes
โ€ข Respond to students in a timely manner
โ€ข Evaluate student achievement and provide feedback timely while maintaining accurate student records in the Canvas Learning Management System
โ€ข Complete the online "Growing with Canvas for Adjuncts" course before the term begins
โ€ข Provide adequate support to students and maintain a respectful, professional rapport
โ€ข Participate in communications with the college and department. This includes utilizing the college Dropout Detective Retention Solution warning system to alert advisors when students falter.
โ€ข Demonstrate effective teaching including preparation, meeting course goals, organization, and presentation of material, student involvement, and classroom management
โ€ข Collaborate with other college departments (academic, student affairs, enrollment, and development) for the mutual benefit of all departments.
โ€ข Maintain a culture of accountability and innovation; maintain the college policies and procedures, as outlined in the course catalog, employee and student handbooks.
Course Description for CS110: Introduction Cybersecurity & Risk Management:
This course offers a foundational introduction to cybersecurity and risk management, with a focus on understanding cyber threats using the Cyber Kill Chain framework. Students will examine key cybersecurity principles, threat landscapes, and common attack vectors, along with security frameworks, regulatory compliance, and risk assessment methodologies. The course emphasizes the identification, evaluation, and mitigation of security risks across technical and organizational domains. Through hands-on exercises and real-world game scenarios, students will learn how to analyze attacker behaviors, strengthen defense strategies, and support cybersecurity planning, policy development, and incident response.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an appropriate field; exceptions can be made for those who have extensive industry experience.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in areas relevant to departmental curricula.
  • Prior teaching experience at the high school or college level is preferred.
