Yu Ming Charter School is a non-profit, tuition-free network of public schools located in Oakland and San Leandro and open to all residents of California. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide a high quality, personalized education program in upper elementary and middle school level coding
  • Maintain a high-level of professionalism including meeting deadlines and commitments to self and the community
  • Develop a week-long expeditionary hands-on learning experiences for upper school students


QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Solid understanding of core computer science concepts (computational thinking, algorithms, debugging) and how to teach them in age-appropriate ways for Grades 5-8.
  • Experience with beginner-to-intermediate coding tools (e.g., Scratch and/or Python/JavaScript)
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience working with students as a teacher, teacher intern, or teaching assistant in a coding environmentSuperb interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, colleagues and families
  • Flexibility and adaptability to change; ability to work in a dynamic and creative learning environment
  • Driven adult learner dedicated to their own professional growth, including learning new and innovative teaching practices

Preferred

  • CA Teaching Credential or out of state equivalent
  • Successful completion of CBEST and/or CSET exam

TIME COMMITMENT

  • 10 hours per week
  • Hours: 9:00-3:15PM
  • 2 days: Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Exact days of work are flexible based on availability.
  • 180-day school year, 8 student-free professional development days for collaboration with colleagues. Common building hours are 8:00am-3:30pm Monday, 8:00am-4pm Tuesday-Friday.


COMPENSATION

$44.40 to $66.13/hour based on years of experience.
