Job description

Our organization is on the lookout for an enthusiastic Chief Medical Officer to be based in Santa Rosa, California. This role is pivotal in advancing our vision of becoming the premier destination for medical practice in the North Bay region.

The Chief Medical Officer will oversee all clinician-related activities within the Medical Departments, ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient care. In a collaborative environment, the successful candidate will partner with the President, Board of Directors, Medical Group, and Foundation Leaders to foster growth and lead initiatives aimed at process enhancement.

Our multi-specialty medical group comprises over 145 healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, who serve across more than 25 specialties in Sonoma County. We have received national recognition for our commitment to excellence, earning multiple accolades for quality care, innovation, and leadership. Our organization is affiliated with a not-for-profit healthcare foundation that provides operational and administrative support, including cutting-edge technology, allowing our physicians to concentrate on delivering outstanding patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead clinical and service quality initiatives for our organization and the North Division (Sonoma and Lake Counties), including active participation in relevant committees and task forces.
  • Oversee medical risk management processes and policies.
  • Ensure compliance and oversight of medical practices for physicians and advanced practice clinicians.
  • Engage in the development and implementation of clinician compensation models and reports.
  • Manage the daily financial operations of the medical group, including budget creation and collaboration with accounting, revenue cycle, and compliance teams.
  • Maintain regular communication with physicians and other providers to understand operational challenges effectively.
  • Supervise the ongoing recruitment of clinicians, including employment agreements and compensation structures.
  • Oversee the onboarding and orientation processes for new providers.
  • May engage in a part-time clinical practice, averaging 0.1 FTE per week, not exceeding 0.2 FTE with prior approval.

Qualifications:

Educational Background:

  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution, with residency in a relevant specialty.
  • Advanced coursework in management and leadership.
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted medical license to practice in California.
  • Meets board eligibility criteria as defined by our organization.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience in managing a physician group is essential.
  • Demonstrated understanding of clinician practice operations, financing, and managed care.
  • Proven ability to foster positive and inclusive workplace environments, emphasizing communication, empathy, emotional intelligence, and teamwork.
  • Expertise in conflict resolution, with skills in active listening, problem-solving, and maintaining composure to achieve collaborative solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legal and accreditation standards is required.
  • Effective skills in business and program development are necessary.
