What is a part time Chief Financial Officer CFO?

Part-time Chief Financial Officers (CFOs), also known as fractional or outsourced CFOs, are finance executives who work with organizations on a part-time, contract, or interim basis. They provide the same high-level financial expertise as a full-time CFO but offer flexibility and cost savings for businesses that don't require or can't afford a full-time executive. Part-time CFOs help with financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, fundraising, and financial reporting, supporting organizations during periods of growth, transition, or specific projects.

What are the typical challenges a part time Chief Financial Officer CFO faces when integrating with existing finance teams?

A part-time CFO often joins organizations with established finance teams and must quickly build trust, understand existing processes, and identify areas for improvement without disrupting daily operations. Balancing strategic oversight with limited hours requires strong communication and prioritization skills. Additionally, aligning the team's goals with broader business objectives while providing mentorship remotely or on a flexible schedule can be challenging but also rewarding, as it fosters both team development and organizational growth.

Job Summary

Custom Patch Hats is a growing manufacturing company built around a simple idea: our clients come first. We’re a friendly, human-focused team that takes pride in quality work and genuine relationships — with our clients and with each other.

We’re hiring a part-time Staff Accountant to own the day-to-day financial processes that keep our business moving. This role is approximately 15–20 hours per week, with an essential in-office presence three days per week to manage check payments and administer positive pay — a critical fraud-prevention control.

This position is ideal for either an early-career professional eager to learn in a hands-on environment or a seasoned accounting expert seeking a meaningful part-time role within a growing product-based business.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Accounting

  • General Ledger Management — Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure accurate coding.
  • Accounts Payable — Process vendor bills and collaborate with AR on customer payments.
  • Payroll Processing — Administer payroll and support HR-related administrative tasks.
  • Reconciliations — Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and payment platforms.

Close & Reporting

  • Execute month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Review and validate system-generated financial statements for accuracy.
  • Track and report budget vs. actuals.
  • Compliance & Filings
  • Manage sales tax and payroll tax filings.
  • Coordinate with external CPA for annual tax preparation.
  • Maintain internal controls and support fraud-prevention processes.

Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Education: Associate Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or finance operations. Experience in manufacturing or product-based businesses is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail and high accuracy standards.
  • Trustworthiness and sound judgment for handling sensitive financial controls.
  • Ability to work independently and manage recurring weekly workflows.
  • Experience with Odoo (strongly preferred).
  • Comfort with online banking platforms and fraud-prevention tools such as positive pay.
  • Physical Demands
  • Sit for extended periods while working at a computer workstation.
  • Perform repetitive hand and finger movements using a keyboard and mouse.

Our Values

At Custom Patch Hats, we value Human Connection, Accountability, Authenticity, Client Focus, and being Unafraid. We look for team members who take pride in craftsmanship, communicate openly, and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
