Department Information: The Department of Accounting and Finance is home to two academic programs: Accounting and Finance. The Accounting program prepares students for careers in public, corporate, governmental, and nonprofit accounting while providing a strong foundation for professional certifications such as the CPA, CMA, and CIA. The Finance program prepares students for careers in financial analysis, financial planning, investment banking, portfolio management, corporate finance, and related fields. It also helps students prepare for professional credentials such as the CFA, CFP, CLU, ChFC, CPCU, and APA.
Position Description: The Department of Accounting and Finance at California State University Bakersfield accepts applications on an ongoing basis for our pool of part-time finance lecturers.
Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications in this pool ad will only be good for the current academic year. This pool will be closed effective May 31st. If you wish to be considered for the next academic year, you will need to apply to the new pool as it becomes available by June 15th.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, or a closely related field with an accounting concentration, along with a professional accounting credential (e.g., CFA, CFP, or CLU); or
- Graduate degree in a business-related field with substantial industry experience in finance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Finance or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Prior university-level teaching experience.
Rank and Salary: Lecturer. Anticipated salary range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. Full-time equivalent salary ranges are as follows (amounts prorated for part-time assignments):
- Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677 per month
- Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224 per month
- Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523 per month
- Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211 per month

Background and Reference Checks: A background check (including a criminal records check) must be satisfactorily completed. Offers of employment are conditional and may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Applicants will be required to disclose whether they have received a final administrative decision or final judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last seven years only after a determination is made that they meet the minimum qualifications for the position, and before an offer of employment is extended. Out of State Employment: Per CSU-wide policy, all faculty who will begin initial employment (or return from a 12-month break in service) on or after January 1, 2022 are required to perform their work from within the State of California. Faculty assignments include in-person duties that require an on-campus presence.
Mandated Reporter: The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. The person will also have a duty to report to the Campus Title IX Officer information pertaining to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct or exploitation, dating or domestic violence, stalking, and retaliation under the CSU Interim Nondiscrimination Policy.
Clery Act: CSUB's annual crime report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus centers, such as our Antelope Valley Satellite Campus, and on property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from CSUB. The report also includes policies concerning security on campus, such as alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, reporting crimes, sexual assault, and other subjects. Additionally, a daily log of offenses is maintained and can be reviewed at the front desk of the Department of Public Safety.
