What are part time cash accountants?

Part time cash accountants are financial professionals who manage and monitor cash transactions, balances, and records for businesses on a part-time basis. Their duties typically include reconciling cash accounts, processing deposits and withdrawals, and ensuring that all cash-related financial data is accurate. Working part time means they may have flexible hours or work only a few days a week, making this role ideal for those seeking work-life balance or supplementary income. They often collaborate with other accounting staff and may use accounting software to maintain up-to-date financial records.

Can you make $500,000 a year as an accountant?

Part time cash accountants typically do not earn $500,000 annually, as this level of income is uncommon in part-time accounting roles. High earnings in accounting usually require senior positions, extensive experience, or working in specialized fields or large firms, often with full-time commitments and advanced certifications. Part-time roles generally offer lower compensation, and reaching such a high income would be rare without additional income sources or business ownership.

What are some typical challenges faced by part-time cash accountants, and how can they be managed effectively?

Part-time cash accountants often manage high volumes of transactions within limited hours, which can make time management and prioritization especially important. They may also need to quickly adapt to updated financial systems or processes, often with less training time than full-time staff. To manage these challenges, strong organizational skills, proactive communication with colleagues, and leveraging automation tools for routine tasks can be very helpful. Staying updated on company procedures and maintaining clear documentation also supports accuracy and efficiency in the role.

Can I work part-time as an accountant?

Part-time accounting positions, including roles like a cash accountant, are common and often involve flexible schedules. These roles typically require basic accounting skills, familiarity with accounting software, and may be suitable for individuals seeking reduced hours or supplemental income.

How much does a cash accountant make?

A cash accountant typically earns between $45,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Part-time cash accountants may earn hourly wages ranging from $20 to $35. Compensation can also vary based on certifications and the complexity of financial responsibilities.

What is a good side hustle for an accountant?

A part time cash accountant can consider freelance bookkeeping, tax preparation, or consulting services as side hustles. These options leverage accounting skills and often require minimal additional certification, fitting well with flexible schedules.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Cash Accountant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Cash Accountant, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, experience with cash handling, and typically an associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks or SAP, as well as proficiency in Excel, is often required. Strong attention to detail, integrity, and effective organizational skills help someone excel in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for maintaining accurate financial records, preventing errors, and ensuring the smooth management of cash transactions.

Job description

Part-Time Accountant (Remote)
Reports to:Accounting Manager
Schedule:Part-time, 2030 hours/week during normal business hours
Location:Fully remote
About us
We're a remote accounting firm that works exclusively in bookkeeping and Controller services for growing small businesses. No tax prep, no audits. That focus is intentional. It means our clients get accountants who actually know their books, and our team gets to do meaningful work without the seasonal grind that comes with tax season.
We're a collaborative group, our clients stick with us for the long haul, and the work-life balance is real.
What you'll do
You'll own the day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of small business clients. That includes:
  • Recording financial transactions in the client's accounting software
  • Reconciling bank and credit card statements
  • Processing AP and AR
  • Producing monthly financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
  • Maintaining the general ledger
  • Supporting the client's CPA at year-end for tax prep
  • Coordinating with payroll providers when applicable
  • Communicating directly with clients to flag discrepancies or share updates
  • Providing audit support when needed

You'll be the primary point of contact for your clients, so the relationship matters as much as the numbers.
What we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on bookkeeping experience for small businesses, including monthly close and financial reporting
  • 1+ year using accounting software in a professional setting
  • QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor Level 1 certification
  • Comfortable working 2030 hours per week during regular business hours
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Experience working remotely on a team where trust and follow-through carry the relationship
  • Discretion when handling confidential client data
  • Genuine willingness to learn new tech as our tools evolve

Working setup
This role is fully remote. You'll need a dedicated workspace, free from distractions, and reliable high-speed internet. Hours are scheduled in agreement with your manager based on client needs.
