Position Description:

EssentialFunctions

  • Construct, install, and dismantle scenic elements for all productions.
  • Interpret technical drawings and translate them into precise scenic builds.
  • Uphold high standards of craftsmanship by applying accurate construction techniques and inspecting materials and finished pieces.
  • Maintain a safe and organized scene shop environment.
  • Operates a CNC router.
  • Ensure timely completion of scenic projects and production deadlines.
  • Collaborate closely with the Technical Director, Assistant Technical Director/Shop Supervisor, and the Props and Paints Supervisor to realize scenic designs.
  • Following and enforcing safety guidelinesand familiarity with OSHA safety standards.
  • Working on occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Apply creative problem-solving when adjustments or modifications are required.
  • All Seattle University staff positions are expected to work with students, learners and those who are in development as professionals.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of professional experience in theatrical carpentry or related fields.
  • Comprehensive understanding of theatrical production processes, including technical and performance aspects.
  • Expertknowledge oftheatrical scene shoptool use and maintenance.
  • Ability to work efficiently under time constraints and meet production deadlines.
  • Proficiency in scenic construction techniques and materials (wood, metal, plastics, adhesives), including painting and rigging.
  • Familiarity with stagecraft disciplines such as rigging, lighting, and stage carpentry, C.A.D, CNC machine.
  • Skilled in the safe and effective use of hand and power tools.
  • Computer Skills:Knowledge of AutoCAD and MicrosoftOfficeSuite.
  • Experience in supervisingcrews,trainingand leadingteams ofworkers (work study students)with varying levels of experiencein the safe operationsofall wood and metal shop equipment.
  • Excellent verbal, visual, and written communicationskillsare required.
  • This position requires a criminal history background check.
  • Valid Driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in technical theater or completion of a recognized training program.
  • Working with students in a mentorship/instructionalcapacity.

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
