This recruitment will be used to fill three part-time (approximately 20 hours per week), seasonal (September - May) Cashier 1 positions for the Hatfield Marine Science Visitor Center at Oregon State University (OSU). This position is located in Newport, Oregon.

This position greets and orients visitors to the Hatfield Marine Science Center Visitors Center (HMSCVC),confirms online reservation(s) and receives moneyand makeschangeas needed in exchange for entrance to the VC and may receive donations to support the VC. TheHMSCVC is in Newport, OR and isoperatedand managed by Oregon Sea Grant. The Hatfield Visitor Center attracts more than 70,000 visitors and upwards of10,000 studentsannually to engage in lifelong learning and discoveryaboutmarine science and marine and coastal ecosystems. The 15,000 square foot facility is filled with family-friendly interactive exhibits, live animals and touch tanks, andstate of the arttechnology.

This position will work two to three days a week and report to the Visitor Center Coordinator. The position requires a general knowledge of cash handling policies and procedures. Additional duties include professionally providing information about the Visitor Center,HMSCcampus, Oregon Sea Grant program, and the local area to visitors; assisting volunteers with interpreting the exhibits within areas surrounding the Visitor Center entrance; answering visitors'questions, assisting with exhibit trouble shooting and maintenance when needed, and light housekeeping.

Key Responsibilities:

• Receives moneyandassistswith credit cardpurchasesfor entry to the Hatfield Visitor Center.
• Sells posters by cash and credit card and records sales.
• Welcomesand orientsvisitors to the Visitor Center.
• Interpretsexhibits, answersvisitor questions, and encouragesdonations.
• Performslighthousekeepingand general office duties at the VC front desk.
• Enters visitor counts, posters sold,and cash/credit card totals for the day into atracking spreadsheet.

Required Qualifications:

• Six months of cashiering experience exchanging money for purchases and making change.
• Training or experience should have included operating a calculator or ten-key adding machine by touch, and using a computer and keyboard.
• The position requires a general knowledge of cash handling policies and procedures.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
