Do I need a CDL for a 3 car hauler?

Part time car haulers typically need a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) if the vehicle's weight or the combined weight of the trailer and load exceeds federal or state thresholds, usually 26,001 pounds or more. For smaller or lighter trailers, a standard driver's license may suffice, but it's important to check local regulations and the specific vehicle requirements. Having a CDL can also improve job prospects and safety compliance.

How much do car haulers make per load?

Car haulers typically earn between $200 and $500 per load, depending on factors such as distance, type of vehicle, and company policies. Pay can also vary based on experience, route complexity, and whether the driver is paid per load or hourly. Many drivers also receive additional compensation for fuel and tolls.

A part time car hauler typically earns between $15 and $25 per hour, with annual earnings ranging from $30,000 to $60,000 depending on experience, location, and workload. Some drivers may earn more with overtime or by working for specialized companies that pay higher rates. Skills in vehicle loading, securement, and route planning can impact earning potential.
