Unit Overview

This is a unique leadership opportunity to shape the future of cancer research at a top-tier cancer center affiliated with MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. You will play a key role in driving clinical innovation, expanding access to groundbreaking treatments, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in the fight against cancer.

Short Description

MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper is seeking an experienced and visionary Medical Oncologist & Director of Clinical Research to lead and expand our clinical trial portfolio, establish a Phase 1 clinical trials program, and strengthen collaborations with MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, pharmaceutical partners, and internal multidisciplinary teams. This role is pivotal in advancing cutting-edge cancer research and fostering collaboration with surgical oncology and the Camden Cancer Research Collaborative to enhance translational research efforts. 

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Research Leadership & Expansion

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan to expand the clinical trial portfolio, ensuring access to innovative treatment options for patients.
  • Lead the establishment of a Phase 1 clinical trials program, ensuring infrastructure and resources support early-phase research.
  • Enhance clinical trial enrollment and streamline trial operations to maximize efficiency and patient access.

Collaboration & Partnership Development

  • Strengthen research partnerships with MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, securing access to novel clinical trials and research initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with pharmaceutical companies and industry sponsors to support trial development and funding opportunities.
  • Foster collaboration with surgical oncology, radiation oncology, and the Camden Cancer Research Collaborative to drive translational research efforts.

Oncology Research Operations & Integration

  • Work closely with research administration, regulatory teams, and clinical staff to ensure compliance with GCP (Good Clinical Practice) guidelines and institutional policies.
  • Mentor and guide faculty, fellows, and research staff in clinical trial design, execution, and publication.
  • Advocate for infrastructure improvements that support trial expansion, including patient recruitment strategies, data management, and research support services
License/Certification Requirements
  • MD or DO with board certification in Medical Oncology.Strong background in clinical trial leadership, with experience in Phase 1 clinical research preferred.
  • Established track record of collaboration with pharmaceutical sponsors and industrypartners.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment,including engagement with surgical and translational research teams.
  • Experience in academic research, including publications and grant funding, is highlydesirable.
