Job description

Building Janitor

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate with ability to demonstrate written and oral communication skills, basic mathematical skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Experienced in physical plant/building sanitation.
  • Basic knowledge in use and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to meet work deadlines.
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate well with people.
  • Must be flexible, cooperative and well-organized.
  • Must be punctual.
  • Must be bondable (no criminal record).  All newly hired employees must be fingerprinted through the State of Illinois and FBI.

Specific Responsibilities:
Primary janitorial duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The cleaning of his/her specified areas of cleaning, as directed by building custodian.
  • Vacuum carpeting, dust mopping and washing of floors.
  • Dusting of entire area including, but not limited to, furniture, window sills, etc.
  • Sanitize desks, chairs and door hardware.
  • Empty garbage cans.
  • Cleaning and washing of whiteboards and ledges.
  • Check area for any burnt out lights, leaks or unsafe conditions, notifying building custodian of any found.
  • Clean and sanitize bathroom toilets, urinals, wash basins, stall partitions and floors.
  • Empty bathroom garbage, fill soap containers, towel and tissue dispensers.
  • Check bathroom area for any leaks or unsafe conditions, notifying building custodian of any found.
  • Washing of window and door glass.
  • Stripping and burnishing of floors.
  • Assist with set-ups and break down of equipment for performances.
  • Assist with any after-hours meetings or approved activities in your building.
  • Assist other building personnel with their cleaning of area, when necessary or instructed to do so.
  • Other duties as assigned

Effective Date and Work Hours:

Immediate start date. 
Positions available:  2nd shift - 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., days and number of hours per day vary based on availability.
Salary:
Beginning salary $17.10/hour
