Class Summary
This is a part-time position with a maximum of 1,508 hours per year and is not eligible for paid holidays, leave, or benefits.
Job Description
The Part-time Building Attendant position involves performing general janitorial and landscaping duties, as well as setting up/breaking down for events, classes, and programs. The ideal candidate will be required to have good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to monitor activities inside and outside of the facility.
Essential Duties
  • Opening and closing the facility, locking/unlocking doors, setting the security alarm, and performing daily checks of all points of entry to ensure the safety of the building and public
  • Assisting, maintaining, and promoting continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
  • Operating lawn mowers, trimmers, and edgers, and performing routine maintenance on all groundskeeping equipment, such as repairing equipment, sharpening blades, checking fluids, and cleaning tools
  • Inspecting and maintaining outdoor spaces by clearing debris, repairing fencing, and reporting hazards
  • Collecting and disposing of trash, recyclables, and other debris from the grounds
  • Performing minor facility maintenance tasks such as basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs under supervision
  • Responding to work orders or supervisor requests promptly and professionally, and maintaining flexibility in daily tasks
  • Collaborating with team members and other departments to complete special projects, seasonal work, and emergency repairs
  • Providing administrative support by maintaining maintenance records, safety documents, and basic reports
  • Completing data entry, communicating via email, completing basic weekly/monthly reports, and ordering supplies
  • Performing other duties of a similar nature or level

Public Speaking
  • Representing and participating in tours or special events.

Other Job Requirements/Information
  • This job will require a successful Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) fingerprint background check as the position works in close contact with children.
  • This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after-hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • This position requires continuous interaction with the public and co-workers.

Hourly Rate
  • The hourly rate is $16.80.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
    • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above, will also be considered.
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications
  • Degree in Horticulture, landscape management, facilities management, or grounds maintenance
  • Two years of janitorial/custodial, landscaping, building maintenance, and/or customer service experience
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
