Description

The Bilingual Center Aid is responsible for interpreting for Spanish speaking families and children receiving services through the Head Start program and will be working in the homes and classrooms with teachers, children and families.ย 

This is a part-year position with various mandatory non-work weeks throughout the school year working approximately 40 weeks per year, 26.25 hours per week, 5.25 per day.


Requirements

Assist the Lead Teacher in the planning and coordinating the classroom.ย ย 

  1. Establish an environment which will stimulate a desire for learning, independence and self-esteem for parents and children.
  2. Ensure that classroom activities are developmentally appropriate and carried out according to Early Childhood philosophy, policies and procedures.
  3. Encourage parents to participate in curriculum planning and program development.
  4. Plan with parents and team members to ensure that daily personal hygiene of the children is met (i.e., feeding, diapering, toileting, teeth brushing, hand washing, and resting.)
  5. Ensure that the planning and involvement of children occur in the preparation of nutritious snacks and clean-up of eating area occurs.
  6. Provide for the constant supervision for all children.

Administer the Spanish version of the Brigance Screener and complete the Spanish portion of the GOLD assessment tool.

Provide personal assistance (telephone callers) to Spanish-speaking children and families, as requested.

Provide assistance to the teachers for home visits, parent teacher conferences and general translations.

Provide daily communication to parents on children's day to day activities or needs.ย 

Work one on one with each child and their individual goals, emergent readers and translations.

Document observations on progress.

Assist with the distribution and serving of food in a safe and sanitary manner.

Participate in parent meetings and center programs during program year.

Perform cleaning within the center and classroom, as needed.

Utilize technology to enhance and increase efficiency within job responsibilities.

Maintain confidentiality in regards to staff and family information.

Encourage parent and community volunteerism.

Fulfill role as mandated reporter as stated in Child Abuse & Neglect Policy.

This position requires occasionally filling in for other teachers, possibly at another site.

Embrace, advocate and carry out the mission and vision of the agency.ย ย 

Abide by all agency policies, procedures and Community Action Code of Ethics.

Follow State Licensing requirements.ย 

Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid.

Other duties as requested by Site Supervisor, Education & Disabilities Manager, Head Start Director, and the Executive Director and/or other members of the Head Start Leadership.
