Overview

The Health Coach partners with clients seeking self-directed, lasting changes aligned with their values, which promote health and wellness and thereby enhance well- being. The Coach will provide a range of services, including screenings and assessments, health education, health navigation, support, and accountability, to promote positive health outcomes.

Schedule

  • Location: Joe and Mary Mottino Family YMCA - Oceanside
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish required 
Responsibilities
  • Support individuals efficiently and effectively to achieve the best outcomes possible 
  • Help support the Community as Medicine program in English and Spanish speaking groups. Leading small group health coaching
  • Engage individuals or in groups via a variety of communication tools, including telephone and SMS 
  • Provide health coaching relevant to chronic disease prevention and management 
  • Meet with clients online or in-person, individually or in group settings, to discuss and set achievable short and long-term goals 
  • Deep understanding of positive psychology, behavior change, and motivation 
  • Excellent communication and listening skills 
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with your clients while promoting health or addressing health related social needs 
  • Provide excellent customer service to community and staff team members 
  • Other duties as assigned  
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required with following certifications:
  • NCCA accredited fitness or health-related certification 
  • National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) or studying for the exam 
  • Deep understanding of positive psychology, behavior change, and motivation 
  • Excellent communication and listening skills 
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with your clients while promoting health or addressing health-related social needs 
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications 
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: 
    • American Red Cross 
    • American Heart Association 
    • American Safety & Health Institute
