Job description

Description Do you enjoy driving, providing excellent customer service, and creating positive experiences for others. If so, consider joining the Frederick County Parks & Recreation team as a Part-Time CDL Driver. We are seeking a dependable and personable driver to safely transport participants on a variety of day trips and activities organized through our Parks & Recreation programs.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys connecting with the community, exploring new destinations, and making every trip a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience. What You'll Do: As a CDL Driver, you will: Safely operate County-owned buses, vans, and passenger vehicles while providing a welcoming and professional experience for riders. Transport Parks and Recreation participants, staff, volunteers, and equipment to scheduled programs, activities, and destinations.

Complete and document required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to help ensure safe and reliable transportation. Keep assigned vehicles clean and well-maintained while reporting any mechanical concerns or maintenance needs. Assist passengers with boarding, exiting vehicles, and safely securing personal belongings as needed.

Follow all federal, state, local, CDL, DOT, and County safety regulations and procedures. Maintain accurate trip documentation, including mileage, inspection, fuel, and vehicle records. Communicate effectively with Parks and Recreation staff regarding schedules, route updates, delays, and any unexpected situations.

Use good judgment and remain calm when responding to changing conditions, including inclement weather, traffic concerns, or emergencies. Deliver excellent customer service while representing Frederick County in a positive and professional manner. Support trip leaders with participant check-in, accountability, and day-of-trip coordination.

Respond appropriately to emergencies, accidents, or passenger needs while following established County procedures. Maintain confidentiality and protect participant information with professionalism and care. What We're Looking For: Must possess a high school diploma or GED.

Must be at least 21 years old. A valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement is required. One (1) year of experience operating commercial passenger vehicles, buses, shuttle vehicles, or similar equipment preferred.

Must be able to drive in the surrounding geographic area - including Washington, D.C. and other large metropolitan areas. Strong ability to operate a passenger vehicle safely, prioritizing passenger comfort, and capability to read and follow maps/GPS efficiently

Experience providing customer service and working with diverse populations is desirable. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules based on program needs. Supplemental Information Physical Demands: Requires prolonged sitting while operating commercial vehicles, with frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, and climbing vehicle steps.

Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds, safely operate a commercial passenger vehicle, and assist passengers with mobility needs when necessary. Requires adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity. Environmental Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors with regular exposure to changing weather, traffic, vehicle noise and vibration, fumes, and other conditions associated with operating commercial passenger vehicles.
