Ohio Interscholastic Wheelchair Basketball Head Official
Start Date: October 15, 2026
Position Details:
  • Part time, annual stipend position.
  • Local travel is required.

Job Description:
In partnership and coordination with Adaptive Sports Ohio and the Ohio Interscholastic Adaptive Sports (OIAS) League Commissioner, the Ohio Interscholastic Wheelchair Basketball Head Official is responsible for recruiting, training, evaluating, and supervising league officials. Duties include:
  • Actively recruit, advocate for, and recommend OIAS officiating opportunities to OHSAA certified basketball officials.
  • Lead wheelchair basketball referee training:
  • In person and/or virtual for both new and returning officials.
  • In-game training for new officials (at least one game).
  • Evaluation of officials, including:
    • Development of criteria and forms for assessing officials.
    • Observing and reviewing their in-game performance for at least one contest (in person or video).
  • Rules communication:
    • Respond to inquiries, comments, and concerns from coaches regarding the interpretation of rules.
    • Prepare and distribute rule related memos as needed to officials and coaches.
    • Conduct in season meetings with officials for further development and rule interpretation.
  • Rule monitoring:
    • Provide input on the OIAS rule book.
    • Report OHSAA and NFHS basketball rule changes as appropriate.
    • Attend related OHSAA and NFHS Basketball meetings when requested.
    • Officiate playoff games and the state championship as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Must be an active OHSAA basketball official.
  • 3+ years officiating traditional basketball.
  • 1+ year officiating wheelchair basketball.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OHSAA, NFHS, and OIAS basketball rules.
  • Experienced in leading, evaluating, and conducting trainings in professional settings.
  • Dedicated to the intent of the OIAS Wheelchair Basketball League.
  • Basic computer skills to include email, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, online meeting and training platforms.
  • Reliable online and in-person communication skills for trainings, memos, and responses to inquiries.

Additional information:
  • Compensation for officiating games is handled separately and paid directly through the DragonFly platform.
  • Background check required.
  • Selected candidate must prioritize league responsibilities during interscholastic wheelchair basketball season.
