Job description

Job DescriptionWe are seeking a candidate with prior experience in officiating basketball games. The ideal applicant should have a proven track record of handling games at various levels, demonstrating a strong understanding of game rules, and effectively managing on-court situations. Experience in maintaining impartiality and making quick, accurate decisions under pressure is essential for this role.
Referees are responsible for understanding and enforcing rules and safety guidelines in a friendly, competitive environment.
Basketball Referee Responsibilities & Duties
  • Officiate basketball games by enforcing the Volo rules and regulations
  • Make quick and accurate decisions regarding fouls, violations, and points
  • Communicate effectively with players, hosts, and other officials
  • Monitor game clock and manage timeouts and intervals
  • Inspect and setup game equipment and facilities
  • Maintain control of the game to ensure player safety and fair competition
  • Report any incidents or altercations to the appropriate authorities
  • Participate in ongoing training and certification programs

Basketball Referee Qualifications & Skills
  • Previous experience officiating basketball at various levels
  • Strong knowledge of basketball rules and regulations
  • Ability to make quick and confident decisions under pressure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical fitness and stamina
  • Ability to remain impartial and fair
  • Problem-solving skills and conflict resolution abilities
  • Willingness to travel for games and tournaments
  • Ongoing commitment to learning and professional development
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification from a recognized officiating association
  • In-depth knowledge of basketball rules and regulations

  • Ability to manage stressful and high-pressure situations
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

Other Needs
  • Must be available for a minimum of eight weeks, as follows:
    • Weekday availability from 5:30pm-11:00pm
    • Weekend availability between 9am - 11pm
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from field locations
  • Must be able to pass Volo referee certification test
