Job description

**Ideal candidates will be permittable at the Field Director level or higher on BLM lands in CA, as well as permittable at the same levels on National and State Park lands, where applicable**

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Reports To: Archaeologist Supervisor

Job Type: Part-Time, Regular

Compensation: $28 - $34 per hour, based on relevant experience

JOB SUMMARY: As an Archaeologist II, you will lead a variety of archaeological projects across Southern and Central California. This role includes overseeing fieldwork, supervising crews, and contributing to the successful completion of cultural resource management efforts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:

  • Serve as a Field Director on assigned projects

  • Conduct Class III (intensive pedestrian) cultural resources inventory

  • Document archaeological sites and IOs/IFs

  • Conduct probing or shovel testing

  • Pre-field literature reviews

  • Background and archival research

  • Archaeological site and isolate field documentation

  • NRHP eligibility evaluations

  • Draft deliverables preparation and deliverable revisions

  • Daily monitoring and/or inspection forms

  • Draft monitoring reports, testing and excavation logs, and excavation technical reports

  • Use hand-held field technology (i.e., ArcGIS phone/tablet application paired with sub-meter GPS receivers)

  • Survey an average of 50 acres/8 miles per day and carry personal health and safety equipment (i.e., personal water, sunscreen, etc.)

  • Work in moderate weather conditions (fluctuating temperatures and inclement weather, including rain and snow)

  • Work independently and efficiently, while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment

  • Ability to work night shifts based on business needs

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings

  • Follow instruction and make adjustments when provided feedback

  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright's and Eocene Environmental Group's culture of safety and employee ownership

  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field

  • Completion of a field school

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience

  • Permitted or qualified for agency permitting based on the SOI Professional Qualification Standards

  • Permitted or permittable on BLM lands in Southern and Central California

  • Proficient in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology in Southern and Central California

  • Proficient in documenting archaeological sites and IOs/IFs in Southern and Central California

  • Organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy

  • Excellent navigational skills (GPS and compass) and ability to navigate and drive 4WD vehicles

  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to work night shifts based on business needs

  • Proficiency using tablets (Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy) to document cultural resources

  • Proficiency with sub-meter GPS receiver

  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123 applications (for phone or tablet)

  • Previous NHPA, NEPA, FERC, and/or other cultural or environmental trainings

  • Strong writing and editing skills

  • Ability to evaluate resources for NRHP-eligibility

  • Authored multiple archaeological site forms and inventory reports

  • Authored a master's degree thesis
