Job description

Summary: Our animal sanctuary team members assist in the care of rescued farm animals. Responsibilities include: cleaning stalls and barn areas, animal handling, feeding and medicating, manual labor, ability to help with general maintenance needs. See below for specific responsibilities and duties.

Duties:

1) Animal Sanctuary Team Member:

- Provide quality care to rescued farm animals including but not limited to: cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, turkey.

- Give appropriate medications as instructed to animals needing treatment

- Follow sanitation, animal care, and facility upkeep policies set by supervisors

-Communicate with team and supervisors

2) Facility Care

- Keep stalls, walkways and other areas of the barns clean and organized

- Stock necessary supplies and equipment

- Maintain equipment and tools in good working condition, report equipment or supply needs to supervisors

3) General Maintenance - not required, but helpful

- Fence repair

- Lawncare

- Shovel snow

- Facility upkeep

4) Must be comfortable working alone several hours a shift once fully trained.

Physical Requirements:

1) Requires vigorous, sustained physical work in all weather conditions. There is no heat or air conditioning in the barn.

2) Work is performed indoors and outdoors in an active farm setting, both alone and with other staff and volunteers

3) Regular lifting up to 50lbs.

4) Must be comfortable working alone several hours a shift once fully trained.

Qualifications:

1) High School diploma or equivalent.

2) Looking for one part-time (20 hours/wk.) team member. Our team cares for animals is 7 days a week, Monday through Sunday including holidays.

3) Must possess a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1) Commitment to our mission, values, goals and overall success of the organization.

2) Highly motivated, strong work ethic, polite & professional.

3) Team player, able to work in a fast paced environment & multi task.

4) Compassion for animals, comfortable working with large animals that have been abused or neglected with a variety of temperaments and personalities who need people with patience and understanding.

5) Knowledge and experience with livestock is helpful.

6) Ability to read & comprehend instructions, correspondence & memos.
