Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Animal Care Technician will maintain a clean and sanitary City of Conroe Animal Shelter facility and will provide food and water to the animals in the shelter. The Animal Care Technician will assist with other daily operations as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior experience working with an Animal Shelter or Animal Clinic is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be able to communicate with the public in a professional manner at all times.
  • Must be able to read and write; basic math skills are required.
  • Must be able to work around animals for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work emergency and on-call hours.
  • Must be able to work weekends.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is heavy and requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally with assistance, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force consistently to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
