Job description

Position: Pound Keeper (Part Time)

Summary: Under the direction of the Animal Control Supervisor, the Pound Keeper (Part Time) assists in the day-to-day care, maintenance, and management of animals and facilities of the of East Providence Animal Control Center. The Pound Keeper (Part Time) ensures the safety, health, and welfare of impounded or stray animals while supporting adoption efforts and public engagement. Work hours for the Pound Keeper (Part Time) will vary and may consist of weekends. Therefore, flexibility in scheduling is necessary for candidates of this position.

General Responsibilities:

  • Feeding and watering animals in the facility.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting runs and cages.
  • Exercising animals.
  • Engaging with members of the public visiting the facility.
  • Washing all areas of the facility.
  • Removing rubbish.
  • Replenishing and maintaining stock, and general housekeeping.
  • Related duties as assigned.

Desired Abilities, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Experience handling animals.
  • Understanding of cleaning and sanitation procedures.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with the public.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must submit a BCI (Criminal Background Investigation).
  • Must pass a physical, back & drug screening.

Examination: 100% Oral Interview
