Job description

Charter One works with schools across the country to provide all-inclusive education management services. At Charter One we pride ourselves on our thorough knowledge of charter school operations, academics, finance, human resources, information technology, marketing, and more. We handle the day-to-day work so that client school boards can focus on governance and policy issues to be sure that the vision and mission of the school are being carried out properly.


American Leadership Academy is now accepting applications for a part-time American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year for our campus located in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Candidates must possess, or be willing to obtain, a valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Implement engaging lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and address the learning needs of students at various proficiency levels.
  • Deliver daily lessons in ASL, focusing on vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, and translation skills.
  • Administer assessments to evaluate student understanding and progress, providing timely feedback to help students improve.
  • Maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment, promoting student engagement and encouraging participation in discussions and activities.
  • Adapt approved instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students, providing additional support or enrichment opportunities as needed.
  • Grade assignments, quizzes, and exams, and maintain accurate records of student progress and performance.
  • Communicate regularly with students and parents regarding academic progress, upcoming assignments, and any concerns or issues that may arise.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the foreign language department and other subject areas to create interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in language instruction and enhance teaching skills.
  • Organize and participate in activities or events that promote the study of ASL and deaf culture, such as ASL Club meetings, competitions, or cultural celebrations.
  • Provide academic and emotional support to students, helping them navigate challenges related to language learning and fostering a love for ASL.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Deaf Studies, American Sign Language or related field
  • Arizona Teaching Certificate or 24 credit hours in area or Content knowledge exams (AEPA, NES, Praxis)
  • Experience teaching ASL
