Permanent Part Time Food Services Driver (G-Class)

Mission Statement: Homes First Society develops and provides affordable, stable housing and support services to break the cycle of homelessness for people with the fewest housing options.

Location: Various

Position type: Part Time, Permanent

Hours of work: 9-5 Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Starting Date: ASAP

Salary: $21.00 per hour plus 7% vacation pay & other benefits

Job Purpose: The Food Services Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of prepared meals, food supplies, and related materials using a Homes First refrigerated vehicle.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Conduct pre/post-trip truck inspections to ensure proper and safe handling conditions
  • Operate the vehicle safely and in compliance with all Ontario traffic regulations
  • Load the vehicle with food service bins, meal containers, and supplies
  • Complete required paperwork (Daily driver logs, Signature of Receipts, vehicle maintenance concerns etc.)
  • Safely transport meals and supplies between centralized kitchens, shelters, and housing sites to designated staff
  • Monitor and adhere to legislative requirements, Toronto Shelter Standards, Collective Agreement and Homes First policies and procedures
  • Maintain inventory and order supplies for the program as needed
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively in English and follow oral and written instructions
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of client populations, diversity issues, anti-discrimination practices and systemic reasons for homelessness
  • Ability to handle heavy loads and lift heavy equipment and supplies
  • Practice excellent food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid G-Class driver's license
  • Minimum 25 years of age (insurance requirement)
  • Keep and maintain a clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Ability to lift and move food bins up to 40 lbs
  • Experience driving cargo vans or light commercial vehicles (preferred)
  • Ability to read and follow maps, directions, and delivery details
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, hygiene and safe handling practices/techniques, Food Handler’s certificate.
  • Experience working in community-based settings with homeless and marginalized individuals, including people who use illicit drugs is considered an asset

Working in an environment where there may be smoke is required. Working in a pet-friendly environment.
